When Quarters Fly.

Once upon a time, there was a German field trip to the Denver Public Library. On this seemingly mundane field trip ventured Malena (the one that you shouldn't make angry) and Michelle (the little one that couldn't possibly be a senior). So these 2 AP students had groups to take around to the various pictures and lead through a packet. Michelle had a kid named Arthur in her group which she thought was quite exciting indeed. Because Marc Brown might possibly be a genius and Arthur is a spectacular show, duh. But anyways, then they had the "oppourtunity" to listen to some German natives speak about where they were when the Berlin Wall came down and a very exuberant photographer that believes that she know everything about any situation and her word is fact even though she has never lived in Germany. Very exciting, I know. And they all got home safely and lived happily ever after. (Except for a slink that is guilty in her heart for being a deceitful meanie a lot of the time!) The End.

................

Just kidding. That's just the boring part. After the exhibits, we had a little less than an hour to hang out around the Capitol building and the 16th Street Mall. Malena and I decided to go get some food. So we are booking it (because it is about 4 or 5 blocks down and 3 over) and being watched very closely by... less fortunate/ possibly homeless people. One old guy even slowed down to check out Malena's feet? Um yeah, we aren't sure. But he was wearing a Harvard sweatshirt.... Anyways. So we are passing an outdoor eating area at a coffee shop, still maintaining a brisk pace, when this rather intense looking man catches our attention. He is wearing a long, billowing black coat (even in the heat), has extremely long, ratted hair, has a mad glint in his eyes, and is wearing a yarmulke (those Jewish hat things). He is half running, half walking right towards us screaming at the top of his lungs about something that we cannot understand. It is made very clear that he is angry about some mistreatment and believes he is taking a stand. Malena and I must have moved to the other side of the sidewalk in our trance-like state because he did not run into us as it seemed he might. But he did, however, throw an angry volley of quarters at us and the coffee shop. And trailing behind him were some homeless people picking up all of the quarters that we was supposedly handing out. So that was exciting. Then we went to this huge Mcdonalds and are standing in line. We hear a man say, "Can I help who's next?" We look up and only see women.... Well, looks can be decieving.... He/ she made a very convincing woman, besides the hands and a few other oddities, I must say. Ah the wonders of make up. Then we book it back to the capitol and there is a protest going on! We were so excited! Could this day get any more exciting for us sheltered P-Towners?? So we go up to the protest and shout for a little while and take pictures like tourists before getting back on the bus and going home.
And what did I get out of this excursion? I decided that Parker is like the Shire. We all live in our little bubble of "peace" sort of unaware of most of the things that go on in the rest of Middle Earth. So it was fun to experience the difference on such an eventful day.
Much Love!!

  1. lol. I think your world is about to get a lot bigger. You'll come home from college with a greater appreciation for P-town. It's a great place to live, I agree!
